Notch Fatigue Life Research Based on Critical Distance Theory

Orthotropic anisotropic steel bridge panels are widely used in civil engineering due to their advantages of light deadweight, high ultimate bearing capacity, and wide range applications. However, fatigue problem is serious, the fatigue-resistant design box girder diaphragm curved cutout still difficult. In order effectively predict life this typical fatigue-susceptible detail, a test specimen with notched segments was carried out. ABAQUS 2016 version finite element analysis software establish three kinds simplified models specimens notches, laws influence different notch radii on were studied. Through solution arc under tensile load 50 kN respective principal stress distributions obtained. The critical distance theory introduced analyze characteristic stresses concentration area notch, point method line calculate stresses. prediction components established by combining material limit FE-safe results. results show that more conservative than method; no matter if or used, radius inversely proportional each other, it beneficial for structure appropriately increase radius. model diaphragms notches based accuracy, which basically consistent results, verifying feasibility specimens, providing reference assessment similar structures.
